Adobe offers relatively few options for editing PDFs for free. Recently there is a free add-on for your browser, but for extensive editing you still need to buy a subscription. Isn’t that possible? Definitely! We offer some alternatives.

PDF editors

There are websites where you can upload, edit and save (download) PDFs. Such sites are quite a lot, but of different quality. Some can be used forever, others limit you to a few documents a day or bother you with too many ads. A widely used variant is PDFescape. PDFescape allows you to view and edit PDFs online even without downloading them. You install the program as an extension to your browser, when you open a PDF file you have the option to edit it, view it online or download it. PDFescape works in Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera.

When editing, you can choose from several options: add (or delete) a page, add objects and text blocks, delete text, etc. PDFescape is also very useful when pointing out adjustments because you can add shapes, arrows, and notes. The program can be used for free without registration, but a registered account has some advantages, including storing your documents online.

See the PDFescape website for more information.

With the favorite Adobe Acrobat, you can easily add, rearrange, replace or move or delete entire pages. Images can also be removed or changed.

The biggest downside to Adobe Acrobat is that this PDF editor also has an Adobe price. You can choose from a variety of options and extensions, with the standard variant costing around 16 Euros per month.

For this price, you can do much more with Acrobat than editing text and adjusting images. For example, you can add comments, draw and formulate, fill out and sign. In another article, we’ll take a closer look at Acrobat’s features.

There is also a free PDF editor recently available from Adobe in the form of a plug-in for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. It allows you to edit PDFs in the browser, add comments, and save the edited PDFs locally on the computer or upload them directly to Adobe Cloud. If you still want more options, you can still unsubscribe from Acrobat DC.

There are other good alternatives to Acrobat. For example, there are many extensions for your browser that allow you to edit PDF files. Bullzip PDF Studio, Scribus, or Sejda are also good options if you don’t want a web tool.
