A case on your phone or tablet is a good way to limit scratches on the screen, but sometimes you just can’t avoid a small scratch. So what are you doing? We give 5 tips to reduce scratches on the screen.
1. Warm soapy water
Before trying any of the tips below, it’s a good idea to take some basic steps. For example, use a soft, lint-free cloth, such as a lens cloth, to wipe the screen. If that doesn’t work to get rid of a scratch, you can dampen the cloth a little with warm soapy water. Then rub the cloth onto the screen. This is a hint from Apple when the screen is scratched, for example. Make sure that moisture does not enter the case of your smartphone or tablet.
2. Wonderful Eraser
If we are to believe the Wondergum label, “It looks like a sponge, it magically cleans”. But do not expect miracles from the eraser, but with the eraser you can remove minor scratches. Gently wipe the screen and you will see instant results. You can also try a regular rubber eraser before purchasing a miracle eraser. You can buy the Wonder eraser at the supermarket or online, for example at Bol.com.
3. Toothpaste
With toothpaste, you can clean not only your teeth, but also your screen. Note: Use a white toothpaste, preferably baking soda, but never gel toothpaste. This tip also works best if you have a screen protector on your phone.
Squeeze a small finger-sized amount of toothpaste onto a microfiber cloth and rub the area in circular motions for half a minute. Repeat if the scratch is still not gone.
4. Baking or baby powder
You can also use a mixture of baking soda or baby powder instead of toothpaste. Mix 2/3 baking or baby powder with 1/3 water. Mix until you have a thick paste, then place a small piece of cloth on a clean, dry cloth. Scrub the area again and then remove any residue from the screen with a slightly damp cloth.
5. Wax Products
Beeswax products like Turtle Wax or other (vegetable) oils are also good ways to remove scratches from your screen. However, with this tip, we must immediately issue a strong warning: Do not use oil if your touchscreen has an oleophobic coating. If you do, the waxing product will have the opposite effect and make the scratches on your screen worse. All Apple phones since the iPhone 7 have such an oil-resistant coating, so the screens of these smartphones are not resistant to waxy products.
