After having demanded them for a long time, Telegram finally listened to its users and very soon it will include stories. The new feature was confirmed by Pavel Durov, CEO of the messenger, who spoke in detail about when and how it will be implemented in the application.
Telegram stories will basically work the same way as Instagram and Messenger stories or WhatsApp statuses. Users will be able to post photos and videos, add text and links, or tag other people. And those who see them will be able to respond to them with emoticons and comments.
An interesting element of Telegram stories is that they can be stored in a dedicated tab in each user’s profile. As for the channels, Durov commented that they are working on the option repost messages in stories. “Going viral on Telegram will be much easier,” he said.
As with other platforms, Telegram stories will appear as “bubbles” at the top of the app’s interface. What makes them different is that they will be located in a more compact space and that they can be expanded when the user wants to see what their contacts are posting.
Telegram will let you control the length of stories and more.
The best thing about Telegram stories is that users you can choose how long they will last. This is something that is not offered in almost any, if any, of the other applications that include them. In addition to the “standard” duration of 24 hours, it will be possible to publish stories What expires in 6, 12 or 48 hours. This is in addition to the aforementioned archiving of posts so that they appear permanently on the profile.
As far as privacy is concerned, those who use Telegram will be able to choose who they want to show their stories to. Ephemeral photos and videos can be shown to everyone, only to contacts (with the ability to set exceptions), to a list of best friends, or to specific contacts. In addition, it will be possible to hide the publications of certain contacts.
Another new feature is that Telegram stories they will have a BeReal component. This is because they will offer support for dual camera posts. This means that users will be able to, for example, share a landscape photo taken with the rear camera while posing for selfie taken with the front camera.
According to Pavel Durov, users have been asking to include stories in Telegram for a long time. In fact, the CEO of the messaging app assured that more than half of the new feature requests were for features related to stories. However, the platform chose to remain silent for years.
The businessman explained that the refusal to add this format to Telegram was due to the fact that “the stories were already everywhere”. Regardless, the public finally got away with it. “After our internal tests with stories, even the naysayers in our team began to appreciate them. We can no longer imagine Telegram without them,” he said.
Telegram Stories are in the final stages of testing. will be officially launched in early July. In this video, you can see a preview of how this feature will look and work.
