Instagram is one of the most popular photo sharing apps. But what happens when you want to download them? Instagram has an upload tool that allows you to upload all your data in one process, including photos. We’ll detail the official process before explaining other options, including tagging, using screenshots, and using third-party apps.

Before you go too far, remember to be respectful of other users: just because you can download an image doesn’t mean you should if it’s not yours. Some users may specifically share images to save as wallpaper, but if it’s not clear, it’s a good idea to ask. Instagram has a detailed summary of its copyright policy.

How to upload all your information to Instagram

Instagram has a simple tool that allows you to upload all your data (including photos) in a few simple steps. Next, we’ll walk you through the process.

Step 1– Log in to Instagram in the web browser of your choice and go to your profile.

Step 2: click the gear icon to the right of where it says Edit profile and select the tab Privacy & Security.

Step 3: you should now see a page that says account privacy upstairs. Scroll down and you will see a title that says data loadingwith a link indicating request a download. Click on the link.

Step 4: You must enter your email address and password to verify your identity and indicate where you want to receive data. Once your identity has been verified, the only thing left to do is wait.

You can also make a download request with the app:

Step 1: Open the app and go to your profile.

Step 2: Touch the icon Menu in the top right corner, then select Parameter.

Step 3: touch Security > Download Data.

Step 4: Enter your email address and then click the button request a download. Then enter your password and click Next. Then mark Ready.

Just like Facebook’s download tool, Instagram will automatically package all your information and email you a download link. Instagram says it can take over 48 hours, but we’ve tried it several times with multiple accounts and it never took more than an hour or two. The download link will expire after four days, so be sure to use it before then.

How to highlight photos on Instagram

Uploading an image isn’t the only way to save it. If you need a quick way to find a photo later, but don’t need to physically store it on your phone, you can bookmark it. Instagram has the ability to organize your saved posts, much like Pinterest boards.

With the bookmark feature, you can save photos to remember them later, like images tagged #foodporn in a folder of restaurants you’d like to visit, or save those epic scenery photos in your dream vacation ideas folder. This feature makes it easy to access your favorite memories, but unlike uploading, you can only access them from Instagram.

Step 1: Tap the marker icon on the right (looks like a ribbon) located under the bottom right corner of the image. If you click on a post in the website version of Instagram, the pin icon will be on the right side of the screen instead of below the image.

Step 2: The photo is already saved, but if you want to organize your saved Instagram photos, tap save to collection. Enter the name of the collection and check Ready.

Step 3: To view, edit, or organize your saved photos on Instagram, on the website, go to your profile and tap the pin icon above your images. In the app, go to your profile, scroll to the menu icon, and select saved.

How to film an Instagram story

Because Instagram stories are displayed in full screen mode, the images they share can become your phone’s wallpaper. In fact, some photographers upload images for just this purpose. But there is a trick to taking a clean screenshot of an Instagram story.

Step 1: When you view an Instagram story, information such as username will be overlapped. Just press and hold anywhere on the screen and those overlays will disappear (this will also pause the story, giving you extra time to take a screenshot).

Step 2: Place your finger on the screen to take a screenshot. This may require a bit of finger skill, but it shouldn’t be too difficult. Here’s how to take a screenshot on iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phones.

Should You Use an Instagram Photo Downloader App?

The Instagram app does not allow users to upload individual photos. However, this has not stopped third-party platforms from creating their own solutions. The question is, are these applications safe?

Instagram parent company Meta (formerly Facebook) has faced backlash over user data sold to the company for social media campaigns. This information was collected when users allowed third-party applications to access their Facebook profiles.

Some of these downloaders might be safe making an app to make money from annoying ads. However, many require that you sign in and allow the app to access your account information. Instead of exposing your account, it’s safer to upload images using just a URL and an online app or Instagram’s own data upload tool.

How to Download Photos from Instagram to Phone

You can also do this with the Instagram app on your phone, and it has some useful perks like the ability to only download your posts, likes, and other select groups of data.

Step 1: Open the app and go to your profile.

Step 2: click icon Menu in the top right corner, then select your activity.

Step 3: Scroll down and select Upload your information and then select request a download.

Step 4: Choose if you want full copy your data or if you want to be more selective. If you only want pictures, please select Select Information Types. If you choose to be selective, you will need to confirm what data types you want on the next page.

Step 5: The next page contains download settings. Select HTML or JSON as in the PC method above, then select your desired media quality and date range. After selecting the correct settings, click Send request.

Step 6: Instagram will now prepare your upload data and send you a notification when it’s ready.
