We talked ad nauseam about how much we love our iPhones and Apple computers. And while taking photos, making videos, and social media seem like our favorite uses, we sometimes forget that these are powerful technological tools that can also improve the lives of people and loved ones. For example, our most beloved and most faithful pets.
Next August 26 Dog Day in the United States (other countries it’s July 21), and today we’re introduced to 3DPets, a New Jersey-based organization that is using the power of the iPhone to give many furry friends new life by creating custom 3D printed prosthetics. .
Using the power of the iPhone’s LiDAR scanner and TrueDepth front camera, as well as several third-party apps, 3DPets can collect the detailed information needed to customize each prosthesis to match the size and shape of each animal. This, of course, includes other animals besides dogs, such as ducks, pigs, goats, and even turtles! Efforts to rehabilitate these adorable creatures are featured in the latest campaign. journey: Trip, known as the dog that started it all, is 3DPets’ mascot and received one of the first prosthetics the company created. At just 4 months old, he became disabled because he was born in an illegal breeding center and had multiple congenital anomalies. He has been heavily involved in the development process of 3DPets and has had the good fortune of helping devices all his life. Today, Trip spends his days splashing in the water, playing ball or running with his best friends, Chito the cat and Nuni the goat.
But Trip is certainly not the only one.
Cleo: Cleo was discovered on the PetFinder by biomedical engineering student Jordan during the last semester of her master’s program after spending time wandering around Oklahoma with injuries of unknown cause. After her adoption, Jordan spent about two years researching dogs, prosthetics, and the biomedical industry in hopes of one day making a prosthetic for Cleo. Having discovered 3DPets and even doing some freelance work with them, Jordan has worked extensively with Cleo to help her gain confidence with her new prosthetics and regain her mobility, and he can tell she is very grateful.

Samson: Samson was an unexpected addition to John and Allison’s family after they sadly lost their previous German Shepherd. Unsure if they could take care of another dog with health problems, it was love at first sight when Samson (then Pluto) approached Allison at the shelter and looked her in the eyes shortly after her amputation. Strong, loyal, brave and affectionate, this dog is able to handle his four-legged friends with ease thanks to 3DPets prosthetics that get him back on the trails and allow him to walk for long periods of time.
