Apple today (6), at WWDC 2022, announced a function for Macs that promises to delight iPhone owners: the software will allow to natively integrate the brand’s cell phone camera with the company’s computers in a wireless experience. This is just one of the news coming to macOS Ventura, the new version of the Cupertino company’s system.

The function called Continuity Camera allows you to use your iPhone as a webcam on your Mac. The user will also be able to use the mobile phone’s powerful cameras for other functions such as viewing the environment while recording the face using the computer’s native camera.

The integration also supports Apple technologies. When using the iPhone as the camera on the Mac, users will be able to turn on Center Stage mode that automatically scrolls, as well as Portrait Mode to blur the background of the call.

new accessories

Along with announcing the functionality that allows the iPhone to be used as a camera, Apple has also revealed accessories that will make it easier to use the mobile phone with a computer.

According to the company, the first official products will be released in partnership with Belkin, which currently produces accessories for iPhones. Regarding the design, some photos show that the support will allow you to easily hang your mobile phone on your Mac.

The prices of Belkin’s new accessories have not been announced at this time. However, with a simple structure, the trend is that it won’t be long before more brands come into play, official or not, with other support to unify iPhone and Mac.

What’s New in macOS Ventura

Integration between iPhone and Mac is just one of the new features of macOS Ventura, Apple’s new version of the system for computers. In addition to releasing the first beta for developers, the company brought a few news about the platform at WWDC.

The main attraction of the next generation macOS is the advanced integration between devices. Apart from turning the iPhone into a webcam, the system will also allow you to move FaceTime calls between different devices.

The operating system will also have new options for sharing content in Safari and improvements to the Mail app that will give it a more powerful search tool. Like iOS 16, macOS Ventura will include improvements to iMessage, including the option to delete sent messages and edit chats.

More details about macOS Ventura can be found on the Apple website. While the first beta version of the system is open to developers, a public version will be available to test from July. The new system will be available as a free upgrade for compatible devices and will come to next-generation MacBooks with chips from the M2 family.
