Motorola is bringing a new mid-range device to market, and not only does it cost $100 less than the Google Pixel 8, but it also offers some features of its own that are worth mentioning.
This is the Motorola Edge (2023), a sleek phone with an aesthetic curved glass and leather construction with a starting price of $599 in the US.
The latest Edge has a familiar look and feel to its predecessors, but it is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7030 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The phone runs Android 13, although Motorola hasn’t said how many OS updates it will receive. There is also no charging adapter in the box.

On the front, there is a 6.6-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) OLED display with HDR support, a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz and a maximum brightness of 1200 nits. The curved glass looks sleek, and Motorola says the Edge (2023) version is IP68 certified, meaning it can withstand occasional splashes of water without damaging the circuit board.
One of the phone’s biggest strengths is that it packs a 4,400mAh battery that supports 68W fast charging, more than double that of the Pixel 8. Motorola says 10 minutes of charging will be enough for a full day of use. but these indicators are highly subjective and should be taken with a grain of salt. It also supports 15W wireless charging and the ability to share power with other devices in the same way wirelessly at 5W speeds.
On the back there is a 50-megapixel main camera with optical stabilization and support for functions such as Active Photos, Night Vision and 4K shooting at 30 frames per second. The main camera has an impressively wide f/1.4 aperture and uses 4-in-1 pixel binning to process light data into 2-micron superpixels.

Simply put, it can let in more light and create images with more detail and depth. The ultra-wide-angle camera is based on a 13-megapixel sensor that also takes digitally cropped macro photos, while the selfie functions on the front of the phone are handled by a 32-megapixel lens.
Motorola Edge (2023) costs $600 and is now available on the company’s official website, Amazon and Best Buy. It comes in Eclipse Black with vegan leather trim.

Motorola’s latest offering looks like a good value phone for its asking price, but the competition is tougher than ever. The Google Pixel 8 offers a faster processor, Android OS updates for the next seven years, and extremely good cameras coupled with feature-rich software. The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is also in the same price range, not to mention you can also easily get a refurbished iPhone or a discounted iPhone from a few years ago at this starting price.
However, the Motorola Edge (2023) is worth a look, especially if you’re looking for a phone under $600. We’ll be testing it out as soon as we can to see if it’s worth the money, so stay tuned for a full review.
