The new Apple Pencil with USB-C is officially unveiled. Representatives from Cupertino have just announced the third version of the iPad accessory, which can now be connected and charged using a USB-C cable. At the top end it has a sliding cover that reveals the corresponding port. This means the pen is compatible with all iPad models with USB-C.

Thus, the bloc members are seeking to put an end to one of the most important contradictions that have arisen between them over the past year. Apple came under fire following the launch of the 10th generation iPad for its controversial decision to leave it tethered to the Apple Pencil with a Lightning connector when the tablet was upgraded to USB-C. This forced users to use an adapter to charge it, which caused quite a bit of irritation.

With the new version of the Apple Pencil, which Apple decided not to be classified as the “third generation” but simply as “Apple Pencil with USB-C” from Cupertino they intend to put an end to this matter. This variant will coexist with the first and second generation models already on the market.

New Apple Pencil with USB-C port

Rumors that Apple will release a new Apple Pencil have gained more momentum in recent hours, although they have not been as accurate as expected. As we already said, this is not a successor to the second generation model, but a kind of intermediate solution which aims to correct the fiasco of the tenth generation iPad being tied to the original Apple Pencil. Although the matter is not limited to this.

As explained in Cupertino, the new Apple Pencil with USB-C provides the same accuracy as the first and second generation models. One of the most notable differences between these versions is that while they can detect slope, The same doesn’t happen with pressure. This updated version includes support for the feature hang out when used with iPad Pro with M2 chip.

On the other hand, it can also be attached to the iPad using a magnet to make it easier to carry around. although it does not support battery charging in this mode. For now, this remains an exclusive feature of the second-generation Apple Pencil. However, it’s worth noting that when connected magnetically to an iPad Pro or Air, the new Apple Pencil with USB-C goes into sleep mode to save battery power.

While the new Apple Pencil is compatible with all iPad models with a USB-C port, it’s clear that it was designed to get the most out of its capabilities on the base tenth-generation model.

Price and availability

The new Apple Pencil with USB-C will be available in early November. The price in the USA will be $79 for the general public and $69 for the education sector. Meanwhile in Spain it will also be launched early next month and in exchange for 95 euros.

This makes it the cheapest Apple Pencil available.. Let us remind you that the first generation pencil is sold for 119 euros along with a USB-C adapter. The latter is also sold separately for 10 euros. In turn, the second generation Apple Pencil is available for 149 euros.
