Is your Samsung tablet not charging? If this happens to you, don’t despair because not charging is not always a serious problem and sometimes it can be fixed quickly and easily.

Follow these steps and enjoy your tablet again like the first day.

Check or replace the charging cable

The cable should always be the first choice to check when having charging problems. First, make sure that it is securely connected at both ends and that the tablet case does not interfere with the proper connection.

Also, check the cable you are using to charge your tablet and make sure it is not visibly damaged. It’s best to test it at the ends where it connects to the ports.

Make sure the plastic is not frayed and above all there are no exposed cables as this can be dangerous so replacing the cable is a priority. Check out our lists of the best USB-C cables and the best micro USB cables to find reliable options that will prevent this from happening again.

Finally, carefully move the part of the cable just in front of the connector, sometimes false contact occurs on these parts. If everything is ok, try a different cable anyway. Sometimes cables stop working and the only thing you can do is replace them.

Check the charging port

Sometimes the problem may be with the charging port. First, do a visual inspection to check if there is anything stuck, such as lint, as lint gets in with alarming regularity and ends up blocking the connectors. If you see something inside, try to carefully remove it.

Can’t you see anything? Insert the charging cable and shake it slightly. Is there a feeling of hardness? If not, there may be something loose in the tablet. This may be the case, especially if when you move the charger, the tablet starts charging and then stops charging.

If yes, then it is almost certain that the charging port is damaged, the only thing left to do is contact Samsung or a third party to fix it.

Check the charger and power supply

Another element that is easy to overlook is the power supply. Check the charger you are using. Is it securely connected to the wall or is there any sign of damage? Unplug it and shake it slightly. Is there anything free? Either way, try a different charger and see if it works.

You should also take into account the characteristics of the charger itself. Tablets typically require more power than mobile phones, so if the power is only 5W, it may not be enough to properly charge these types of devices.

Most chargers have wattage ratings, so pay attention to that. Typically 10W is the minimum required to charge a tablet. Obviously this won’t apply to a charger you’ve used before, but it’s always worth checking to see if it’s new.

Finally, check if the other power source is working. If you use one outlet, try another. If it’s a USB port, see if there’s another one you can try. A damaged socket can be a serious household problem that needs to be fixed, so it’s worth fixing this simple problem.

Reboot your tablet

This is the golden rule of computing and it applies here. Is there something wrong? Try turning it off and on again. To turn off your Samsung Galaxy Tab, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons and select Restart from the menu.

Perform a hard reset

Be careful: a hard reset will erase all data on your tablet and return it to the state it was in when you purchased it. Before that, you can use Smart Switch to backup information to an SD card or USB device.

While backing up your data will require a lot of work, it’s worth trying before the latter option since Samsung usually performs a factory reset on the devices it works on.

To perform a factory reset, go to Settings. Then select General Management > Reset > Factory Data Reset. Tap Reset and enter your lock code or PIN, then tap Erase everything.

After the reset, you will have to set up the device again as you did when you first purchased it and check if charging works. If you don’t, it’s time to move on to the last step.

Bring your tablet to Samsung

The last option is to give up and wait for it to be examined by a qualified professional. There’s no shame in admitting that something is beyond your expertise and handing the tablet over to someone who can take a closer look at it.

Go to the Samsung service website and find your nearest repair center. If you can find a reliable third party near you, consider giving them your tablet. However, doing so may void Samsung’s warranty and is done at your own risk.
