Apple Vision Pro is one of the most popular products you can buy right now, and every time I see a demo, I see a new feature. But then I see a photo or video of someone wearing a Vision Pro outside in the real world and doing something weird while walking, and it makes me sigh.
In truth, it should definitely only be used in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
Vision Pro looks incredible, whether during Apple’s demos or during the growing number of real-world experiences from eager early adopters who are starting to show what Apple’s headsets are capable of. This product is exactly what we all want from any new futuristic technology.
But Apple is showing the Vision Pro indoors, and when you first put it on, you’re apparently told to only use the headset in safe or controlled areas. I understand that my definition of a safe zone may differ from yours or Apple’s, but common sense dictates that it is not walking down the street, riding the subway, skateboarding, or driving a car. However, we’ve seen people do all this and more, looking very stupid, very awkward and completely desperate for attention when they do it.

Yes, there are high-quality videos showing people using Apple Vision Pro in the real world, so doing it in front of other people seems quite normal. But is not and as proof, there’s a video of Casey Neistat using it in New York. Seemingly filmed mostly for laughs, it shows the disconcerting reality of this type of product. He knows he looks ridiculous and flaunts himself even more by wearing his hi-vis jacket, while making it clear that wandering around with a Vision Pro on your head is everything we already hate about smartphones, but amped up.
Being next to or stuck behind someone completely engrossed in their phone, slowly wandering, or oblivious to the world around them is as frustrating as it is frustrating. For a truly nightmare scenario, imagine 20 or 30 people around you staring into space with their mouths open while you push, pinch, and push through the air trying to get from the subway to the exit in one piece.
That’s it, except for how ridiculously stupid it is to use, especially in isolation. Google Glass has attracted attention, but never has it been more obvious than the Vision Pro in your face. To be clear: all the critics and influencers who release Vision Pro look like fools and do so. so you don’t have to. They are the ones who enjoy, no, need attention. Also, we as consumers need to see what it’s like to use this amazing new technology everywhere, but I think we’ve seen enough to know that it’s better to use it within four walls, in relative privacy. At least for now.
Today’s Vision Pro is just the beginning, and those brave souls who risk public ridicule show us how transformative Apple’s spatial computing experience could be in the future, when the hardware is as thin as regular glasses or even contact lenses and a user interface . has been improved so that less physical movement is required.
