The mobile phone market has gained a new chipset that promises to deliver better experiences in the more advanced mid-range model segment. This Thursday (21), Qualcomm announces the launch of the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 (4nm), which introduces generative artificial intelligence (AI) features for the first time in the series.

The “+” in the chipset name stands for in the current Snapdragon 7 series, Provides more resources and performance while consuming less energy. According to the company, it offers improvements in artificial intelligence, cameras, games, audio and connectivity.

According to Qualcomm, the chipset’s offering is to bring generative AI functions running on the devices themselves. These include better virtual assistants and rendering. Major language models (LLMs) are supported by Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano and Zhipu ChatGLM.

The first mobile phones to feature the new hardware are expected to hit the market “in the coming months”; Brands like Realme, OnePlus, and Sharp have already been confirmed to have adopted it.

What’s good about Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3?

Compared to Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, The new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 has a 15% increase in CPU (based on Geekbench 6 multi-threading testing) and a 45% increase in GPU (running the GFX Aztec benchmark at 1080p resolution).. The chipset also promises a 5% improvement in energy efficiency compared to the previous model.

  • CPU (64-bit): 1 main core (Cortex-X4) up to 2.8 GHz, 4 performance cores (up to 2.6 GHz) and 3 efficiency cores (up to 1.9 GHz).

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Generation 3

Qualcomm has also added other significant improvements in different areas. For example, this line features Wi-Fi 7 connectivity for the first time, thanks to the FastConnect 7800 chip that can reach speeds of up to 6.3 Gbps. Also included is the X63 chip for 5G, which is the same one used in the standard Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

For games, it brings a feature called post-processing accelerator that provides improvements in bloom, depth of field, and motion blur. Another addition is Adreno Frame Engine 2.0, which promises to improve the quality of content played without draining the battery.

In photography, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 features an 18-bit image signal processor (ISP), optimized processing of up to 12 individual layers in a scene (in real time), and improvements for photos in low-light scenarios. Also supports camera sensors up to 200 MPUltra HDR and HDR video capture (HDR10+, HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision) as well as the standard version.
