A former employee of the UPS delivery company has been charged Stealing goods worth US$1.3 million (approximately R$6.4 million) Apple for resale, the tool reported Global News on Tuesday (19). The case took place in Winnipeg, Canada, where the man had been working as a manager since 2013.

In December 2023, UPS launched an internal investigation to find out why several Apple products mysteriously disappeared from its Winnipeg facility. To capture the incident, the company installed security camera circuits and discovered that one of the employees, supervisor Orville Beltrano, was diverting orders destined for Ontario.

The strange actions began occurring between September 2023 and January 2024, when Beltrano deposited more than $232,000 into his own bank account. After the product diversion was discovered, the employee was fired on January 22 and arrested the same day.

According to the investigation, Beltrano stole 886 Apple devices from the UPS warehouse where he worked; More than 120 iPhones were stolen in one day. After the intervention, he resold the products and kept the money.

Canadian authorities also found $9,000, a Mac laptop and $9,000 worth of jewelry at the time of Beltrano’s arrest.

According to the report, Beltrano admitted to stealing Apple products and jewelry shipped to UPS. He claimed he would use the money to buy a US$680,000 home and pay off a US$60,000 debt on an Audi car purchased in 2021.

Beltrano was charged with a number of offences, including theft of an item valued at more than $5,000, theft of an item valued at less than $5,000, possession of stolen property valued at more than $5,000 and possession of proceeds of crime.

As a result, the prosecutors in charge of the case requested the seizure of Beltrano’s assets, including his home, money, car and the amounts in his bank account.
