Apple has almost certainly put an end to “Hackintosh”
The power of Apple Silicon defeated the creativity of Hackintosh
Apple put all its efforts together Completed transition from Intel to Apple Silicon By producing its own processors for the Mac, Apple’s M series chips, which are also found in some new generation iPad models, killed Hackintosh.
“Hackintosh” is a computer Running Apple’s macOS operating system on Intel hardware. That is, a computer not designed or manufactured by Apple. Something similar to when they installed macOS on the Nintendo DS, although less weird. They are popularly called that because very good computer knowledge is required to achieve this.
Unfortunately for many users, the Hackintosh project is dying, as was Cydia at the time.
Hackintosh computers may soon cease to exist
Aleksandar Vaci, one of the leading experts on the Hackintosh scene, spoke about the issue in his post on the Aplus blog. It (almost) guarantees that Hackintosh is dead.
As he predicted some time ago in the face of the big transition from Intel to Apple Silicon, Apple’s Intel hardware computers are practically obsolete. And with them, so do Hackintosh computers.
He believes that one of the main reasons for the demise of Hackintosh was: “Apple has removed all traces of support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth card drivers” This plays a fundamental role in running macOS on a computer not manufactured by the company.
The most likely reason for this is that Apple is deprecating drivers from .kext (Kernel extensions) to .dext (DriverKit), resulting in cleaning up old and unused code in macOS. They did the same for Ethernet drivers in macOS Ventura.
We are at the beginning of the end for Hackintosh. As we mentioned, the same happened with jailbreak, the tool that allows you to customize many features of the iPhone and iPad operating system. Although with the arrival of alternatives to the App Store in iOS 17.4, perhaps we will see the return of Cydia. Will the same thing happen to Hackintosh in the future?
