If we talk about Samsung phones, the main character is the Galaxy S. But the South Korean company also has other very interesting families. One of them is the Galaxy A, aimed at the mid-range and recently updated with two models: the Galaxy A35, available for 379 euros, and the Galaxy A35, available for 379 euros. Galaxy A55, which costs about 479 euros. Both aim to compete with mid- and high-end brands such as Xiaomi, and do so by inheriting some of the features of their older brothers: the Galaxy S24.

Although the Galaxy A35 and A55 are very similar to each other, the truth is that a model whose characteristics most closely resemble Samsung flagships, this is Galaxy A55. This is the one in Hypertext We’ve done extensive testing to see if it’s really worth paying what it’s worth.

Because on paper its characteristics are compelling; The Galaxy A55 features a 6.6-inch AMOLED display with 1000 nits of brightness. new Exynos processortriple main camera of 50 megapixels, a battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh and a design consistent with other smartphones of the brand, but slightly different from what we are used to.

But, Is it enough to compete with the narrow mid-range? Or even to compete with high-end emerging brands like Nothing?

The best thing about the Galaxy A55 is its design.

To recap, the Samsung Galaxy A55 inherits some features from its big brother Galaxy S24, and design, in a sense, is one of them.

New middle class from Samsung. leaves aside previous generation polycarbonate in favor of a glass back panel completely flat, in which the camera modules protrude slightly independently of each other. The terminal is also available in different finishes, such as pink, which reflects a kind of rainbow when light hits it, blue with a similar effect, yellow or classic black.

The rear part is also combined with aluminum frames of the same color, although in this case with matte effect which, on the one hand, gives it a shiny appearance that makes the mobile phone more attractive, and on the other hand, prevents fingerprints from being easily recognized.

In addition, Samsung created an interesting effect by making the area of the frame where the volume and power keys are located slightly raised; This does not interfere with the grip at all. Moreover, finding the buttons becomes much easier since this area does not have a matte surface.

All this, including a completely flat front panel without any bezels, makes the Galaxy A55 a beautiful, elegant premium mobile phone. In fact, it’s almost the same as holding the Galaxy S24 in your hands; although somewhat thicker (the Galaxy A55 is 8.2 mm thick) and somewhat heavier (weighs 213 grams).

Also its screen and battery life

Samsung Galaxy A55 screen.

The screen is another advantage of this Galaxy A55, despite the fact that it inherently has characteristics similar to those of any other mid-range mobile phone. In this case we find 6.6″ Super AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

This is, in general terms, incredible screen, one of the best I’ve tried in this price range. Both contrast and color tone are excellent, brightness is more than adequate even outdoors, and the screen’s adaptive refresh rate makes viewing and user experience much more satisfying.

This screen is powered by 5000 mAh battery which also does its job very well and allows you to last a day and a half with average use without a charger. A charger, which, by the way, is not included in the package. In any case, Galaxy A55 supports Fast charging 25WAcceptable power for a boost, but well below the power of other phones that even cost less than this Samsung.

Sufficient power, but

Samsung Galaxy A55 has Exynos 1480 processor.. This is Samsung’s own SoC, aimed at the mid-range and in this case, equipped with a large amount of RAM of 8 GB. This allows the terminal to open and use any application without any problems, as well as run games even with demanding graphics, without lags or other delays.

All this, besides without excessive heating of the device, something that is valued. By the way, the fact that the frames are completely flat and have a matte surface, and the corners are slightly rounded, makes gripping the mobile phone in a horizontal position much more comfortable, which significantly increases the playing time.

Now: Although the Galaxy A55 offers good performance, its processor It is slightly lower in power compared to other similar SoCs. In tests conducted using Geekbench, the terminal scored 1155 points in a single core and 3429 points in multiple cores. This is lower than processors such as the Dimensity 800 Ultra in the Xiaomi 13T (available for around 500 euros), which scored 83,841 points in the Geekbench multi-core test.

These are the cameras of the Samsung Galaxy A55.

Samsung Galaxy A55 inherits the configuration and sensors of the Galaxy A54. We find, therefore, main sensor 50 megapixels, 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and 5-megapixel macro camera.

This is a good camera, it has excellent stability and allows you to take photos with good detail and correct interpretation of shadows. Samsung also seems to have improved one of the negative aspects of previous generations: color saturation. The Galaxy A55’s camera images are more realistic, although in some cases it suffers from overexposure, forcing us to retake the shot.

ultra wide angle camera It also performs very well, although the loss of detail is quite noticeable in scenes where there is a lot of information to be captured, such as a garden with trees. However, if you have good lighting conditions, you can achieve good results.

Galaxy A55 also has macro lens which, although good at capturing images at close range, is very unusable. In fact, it’s very likely that you’ll forget you can take photos with this sensor. It would be nice to replace this camera with a telephoto lens. This would allow Samsung to have a much more versatile camera on its mid-range smartphone and would serve as an advantage to compete with those Xiaomi phones that do not have this element.

Is the Samsung Galaxy A55 worth the money?

Samsung Galaxy A55 It’s practically a round mobile. It has an attractive design, very good materials, and a range of colors to suit every taste. Its screen is excellent; One of the best I’ve tried on a mobile phone in this price range, and the 120Hz refresh rate and software features that let you adjust the color tone greatly improve the user experience.

All this is combined with a very good battery, a thoughtful level of customization and very useful services and platforms such as Samsung Pay, as well as a camera that, while not one of the best in this segment, works well in most conditions.

Now the Galaxy A55 has the same problem it always has: price. The Samsung smartphone costs 480 euros in the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. and 530 euros in case of the 256 GB variant. In the latter case, the price is similar to the Nothing Phone 256 GB (2) (available for 550 euros), which in my opinion is a better option as it has a more powerful processor, a much flashier design and is also found in sections such as photography or autonomy. For around 500 euros we can also get phones like the Xiaomi 13T, which has a slightly more powerful processor, a telephoto lens and more powerful charging.

Be warned: this doesn’t mean the Galaxy A55 is a bad option. In fact, it is an ideal alternative if you are looking for a mobile phone that has a good design, a good screen and is on par with other sections. However, the smartest thing to do is wait until its price drops a little, or try to purchase it at a discount through operators.
