Samsung Electronics, a global partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, today announced plans to revolutionize the broadcast experience with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Broadcasting Service (OBS). In about a month, the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place outside the stadium for the first time. In Paris 2024, 10,500 athletes will descend on the Seine. on designated boats for each national delegation in what is set to be the most open and accessible inauguration ceremony in history. The famous parade will start from the Pont d’Austerlitz and will travel a six-kilometre route through the center of Paris, passing some of the official Olympic sites before the grand final ceremony at the Trocadéro.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra will give spectators a front-row seat at the Games

To bring fans closer to the action and give them a chance to see how the athletes react during this unique journey, Samsung will install more than 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones on the bow and sides of each of the 85 boats. Samsung will also be using the same technology at the Marseille sailing competition, installing a Galaxy S24 Ultra on every racing yacht, allowing fans to experience the excitement of the regatta alongside their favorite Olympians and jump straight into action.

This required a whole new set of challenges and months of research, development and testing – in close collaboration with OBS and Orange – to ensure video quality and connection performance in different types of water and weather conditions, which could be very windy, with huge waves or very hot and sunny. To address these issues, Samsung and its partners took advantage of the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s optical image stabilization (OIS) features, increased transmission power, and installed transmission towers on a tracking vessel to provide viewers with an uninterrupted live feed.
