While flagships are the standouts in OnePlus’ mobile catalog, the Chinese company also offers a line of slightly cheaper smartphones with some interesting features. This is the Nord family, which was recently updated with OnePlus Nord 4; a smartphone with very interesting features that can compete in the mid-to-high range dominated by Samsung and Xiaomi, and this is in Hypertext We were able to test it a few days before the official launch.

In particular, the new OnePlus Nord 4 will go on sale at a price of 499 euros with quite complete characteristics. The brand’s mobile phone is equipped with a Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 processor, a 5500 mAh battery, a 50-megapixel camera or a 6.74-inch AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

However, its strengths lie not in the technical characteristics as such, but in areas that other manufacturers do not pay much attention to. They are as follows.

OnePlus Nord 4 Design

Yes, design is a very important section for many manufacturers, but in the mid-price range, almost all companies follow almost the same line: they choose glossy glass or even plastic back panels, with a gradient or matte finish, or with reliefs, or with effects inspired by nature, etc. OnePlus with this Nord 4 went a little in the opposite direction, including a material that has been widely used in high-end mobile phones: aluminum.

Actually, Not only the frames are aluminum, but also the rear part; at least in most of the back, as there is glass at the top where the cameras are located, giving it a slightly different aesthetic.

This set makes the OnePlus Nord 4 design exceptional for several reasons. First of all, does it very elegantly; especially the black version we tested on this drive. Also makes it extremely convenient: The aluminum is very soft to the touch, although not at all slippery; fingerprints are not left behind, and the thickness of only 8 mm makes the grip much more comfortable.

Except, OnePlus has retained its essence betting on this material for almost the entire body of the device. The mobile phone is very reminiscent of the brand’s previous flagship models, but with a slightly more modernized appearance.

This great design is complemented by a screen that is top notch. In fact, although to a lesser extent, this is another strong point of the OnePlus Nord 4. We find 6.74-inch Super AMOLED panelWith a resolution of 2772×1240 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, it is a bright screen, very clear and with very good color interpretation.

It’s worth noting that OnePlus didn’t go with curved edges. and that it is completely flat. A related note: the highest resolution is not installed by default, it must be activated manually through the system settings.

Software: one of lime and one of sand.

OnePlus Nord 4 OxygenOS

The software experience is another of the most important aspects of the OnePlus Nord 4. Although I must say that in this section we find one of lime and one of sand. The OnePlus mobile has OxygenOS 14a native interface running Android 14 that is flexible and customizable.

This is without a doubt one of the most complete layers we can find in a smartphone; It has many settings and additional options that can greatly improve the user experience, and everything will work without interruptions; without cuts and delays in animation. The latter is partly due to Snapdragon 7 Plus 3rd generation which includes the OnePlus Nord 4, which is accompanied by a more than generous 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. All this, in addition, with a 5400 mAh battery that also does its job very well.

Of course, there is also a negative point regarding the software: bloatware. OnePlus Nord 4 comes with several pre-installed apps; many of them are unnecessary – there is actually a third-party weather app, although the mobile phone already has a default app. This is something that was not previously available in the brand’s mobile phones, but the situation has changed since the merger of OnePlus and Oppo. Fortunately, these apps can be removed.

OnePlus Nord 4 Camera

OnePlus Nord 4

While it may not seem like it due to the number of sensors, the camera is the third highlight of the OnePlus Nord 4. The smartphone has 50 megapixels main; specifically, the Sony LYT-600 sensor. It is also accompanied by an 80-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. As an extra, OnePlus has included some AI-powered features which are responsible for improving photographic results. Among them is the AI Groupfie function, which allows you to focus the gaze of all the people who appear in the photo to get the best shot.

As for the photographic results with the OnePlus Nord 4, the truth is that the camera does a very good job in good lighting conditions. Outdoors, for example, you can get images with very good color interpretation and more than correct exposure. Of course, the OnePlus Nord 4 there is a ProXDR mode enabled by default, which I think is best disabled as it tends to oversaturate colors.

The wide-angle camera also does a good job in good lighting, although, as usual, it loses its strength in, for example, dimly lit interiors.

Is this a good candidate for the middle class?

To sum it up, the OnePlus Nord 4 is one of the best options for 500 euros if you are looking for a mobile that stands out for its design, software and screen and does not leave behind other sections such as performance, camera or autonomy.

However, it is true that the new mid-range OnePlus has very strong competitors. One of them is the Pixel 8a, which, although it does not have such a premium design, its photography section is much better. In addition, Google’s mobile does not leave aside sections such as the screen or software. Xiaomi also has very attractive options, such as the 13T, whose photography section is also more versatile.

Either way, the OnePlus Nord 4 shows that the company continues to maintain its core identity despite being fully integrated with Oppo, especially in terms of its focus on user experience.
