Happy New Year! Galaxy Z Flip 6 from Samsung, tech YouTuber Zach Nelson of JerryRigEverything simply did what he does best. Which is completely destroy the phone to test its durability.
Those who find it shameful to watch themselves being scratched, scraped, burned and bent to (near or total) destruction will have a hard time. But it’s also a little bit fascinating.
Noticing some differences between the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and its predecessor (like four headphone jacks instead of three, a more square design, and perhaps fewer internal creases on the screen), Nelson gets to work with his toolbox… and his nails, which left unsightly and permanent marks after dragging them across the screen.
Not halfway through the durability test, the cutter appears—a device that no phone handles particularly well, nor would you expect it to. With disconcerting enthusiasm, Nelson runs the blade over every part of the phone, leaving deep scratches in the casing and making a noise that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Next up is the litmus test: the YouTuber holds an open flame to the screen to see how well it will hold up. In this case, it took about 14 seconds before the screen started showing signs of degradation.
Noting that the IP48 protection rating for Galaxy Z Flip 6 This means it is protected against objects 1 millimeter or larger. Nelson dumps what is essentially a bag of garbage on the Samsung smartphone before opening and closing the device repeatedly. It doesn’t seem to take much damage, although the phone does get a little noisy when folding and opening it.
Next up is the YouTuber’s famously unscientific bend test, where he uses his bare hands to test the structural integrity of any device he puts through a mill. Folding a foldable phone may seem pointless, since that’s what it’s designed to do, but it’s not meant to be forced into use. in the opposite directionWhat’s impressive is that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 can withstand an outward Nelson bend and still remain intact.
The rest of the video shows the YouTuber tearing apart the outside of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 to get a better look at its internals. The end result is that the phone is almost unrecognizable, though it should be noted that overall it did pretty well in this durability test.
