Following the announcement of the iPhone 16 series last week, there has been much speculation about the new model’s technical specifications and the amount of RAM, especially. Apple’s senior vice president of hardware and technology, Johny Srouji, confirmed in an interview with YouTube channel Geekerwan that the products will have 8 GB of RAM.

The chat revealed that Apple wants to bring Apple Intelligence functionality to all of its family devices, and needs more performance to do so. So, increasing the amount of RAM seems to combine the useful with the pleasant for the company, as it provides a jump in specs and meets the requirements for Intelligence to work.

This also explains why the AI feature didn’t work on older Apple devices like the iPhone 15. “We really struck the right balance and equilibrium between the things that made the most sense. So Apple Intelligence was a key feature that convinced us that we needed to get to 8GB,” Srouji commented.

More RAM also helps run AAA games

It is also worth remembering that the iPhone 16 will be the first smartphone of the Cupertino company to be launched with 8 GB of RAM. Until the last generation, the iPhone 15 had only 6 GB, but historically Apple is not known to launch products with so much RAM because its system tends to have good optimization.

During the interview, the company executive also mentioned that this additional amount of memory will allow the smartphones to run AAA games. During the launch event, the company revealed that the iPhone 16 will be able to run games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil 4 Remake.

The iPhone 16 with its new chip and dedicated camera button will go on sale from September 20.
