The woman, who had no medical history to explain her symptoms, reportedly sought medical attention after her vision worsened shortly after using the dye. Doctors at Edward Herriot Hospital and LEO Eye Centre identified the chemical as the likely culprit after noticing similar cases involving aromatic amines.
Fortunately, the woman’s condition improved after she stopped using the problematic dye. Her vision returned to normal within four months, and a follow-up examination four years later showed no problems, despite some residual changes in the retina. She now uses amine-free hair dye without any problems.
