If you have a compatible Apple Watch, you can now set up watchOS 11. The new version of the operating system for Apple’s smartwatches contains several new features, although its main function sleep apnea detection which was announced last week with the presentation of the Apple Watch Series 10.

This new feature is responsible for tracking your breathing abnormalities while you sleep. As Apple explains, watchOS 11 will notify you when you experience persistent signs of possible moderate to severe sleep disturbance for 30 days.. This feature calculates breathing pauses during sleep and classifies them as “elevated” or “not elevated”.

It’s worth mentioning that this watchOS 11 feature is intended for users 18 and older who have not previously been diagnosed with sleep apnea. It also allows you to share a report of your breathing disorder detection with doctors and healthcare professionals.

“The notification includes the time period during which the possible sleep apnea occurred and educational materials about the importance of seeking treatment, as well as a PDF that provides three months of respiratory distress data, notification details, and additional information to review when speaking with a healthcare provider,” the Cupertino residents say.

While watchOS 11 is compatible with Apple Watch Series 6 and later, sleep apnea detection only works on Apple Watch Series 6 and later. Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and new Apple Watch Series 10. As for international availability, Cupertino points out that the feature is now available in more than 150 countries, including the US, Spain, the UK, and Japan. In Latin America, meanwhile, it’s not yet available in Mexico and Argentina, but it is in Chile. You can check out all the locations here.

Apple Watches Compatible with watchOS 11

If you want to install watchOS 11, you’ll need one of the following models:

  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Series 9
  • Apple Watch Ultra
  • Apple Watch Ultra 2
  • Apple Watch SE 2

In addition to sleep apnea detection on new models, watchOS 11 brings other important new features to all compatible Apple Watches. These include:

  • New application Vitalwhich offers a centralized view of all your vital data, such as sleep quality, heart rate and physical activity.
  • Function Training loadwhich is integrated into the Fitness app and, as the name suggests, analyzes your workouts and their load. In addition, it offers an effort rating from 1 to 10 for cardio workouts.

watchOS 11 also introduces new areas like Flux and Reflections, as well as the Tides app, which lets you track tides around the world and offers practical information for surfers.

How to install it?

Installing watchOS 11 is very easy. You just need to go into your Apple Watch settings and go to General > Software Update. Please note that you need an iPhone.
