Apple is developing HomePod with an iPad-like screen which will become the center of the connected home. The first details about this device were published a few months ago in Apple’s code, but they didn’t provide much information. Today, that changes thanks to a new leak that hints at what Cupertino has in store for next year.
According to a report from 9to5MacHomePod with screen It will be powered by the A18 chip from the iPhone 16 and will offer Apple Intelligence features.. Codenamed “HomeAccessory”, this device will have a square screen with the same technology as the iPad. Users will be able to control other smart devices or perform common tasks such as browsing the Internet, watching a YouTube video, or asking Siri a question.
One of the most striking features of the HomePod with screen is the camera, which will have ability to recognize gestures from a distance. Thanks to Apple’s artificial intelligence, the HomePod camera will identify people who will respond to specific requests. As we’ve seen with the Echo Show and other smart speakers, HomePod will let you make video calls through FaceTime, Zoom, and other apps.
The remaining characteristics are currently unknown. Apple works on multiple devices with Apple Intelligence and functions using robotics technology. Cupertino engineers are also experimenting with a version of tvOS adapted for small screens, such as the iPad Mini. Ultimately, it all comes down to developing a touchscreen version of the HomePod.
HomePod needs to change to be competitive
One of the big absences from 2024 was a HomePod update. Rumors about the redesign have been circulating for several months now and suggest that we will see a device with a screen. Apple knows it urgently needs to update its speakerYes, because the current version does not support Apple Intelligence.
While Amazon and Google are developing versions of the Echo Show and Nest Hub that integrate their AI models, Apple has completely forgotten about this segment. Both HomePod and Apple TV don’t support Apple Intelligence. in current versions, so they left “intelligence” in the background.
If the rumors are true, we will see a new HomePod with a display in 2025. By the time it becomes available, Apple Intelligence will have unlocked all its features.
