The LUNA facility is 700 square meters in size and contains approximately 900 tons of synthetic regolith that simulates the surface of the Moon, allowing astronauts to train for movement in a Moon-like environment.

In addition to simulating surface conditions, LUNA includes a lighting simulator to simulate the moon’s day-night cycles and gravity evacuation systems to simulate the reduced gravity astronauts would experience. The facility will also serve as a testing ground for robotic systems, scientific experiments and energy technologies.

In addition to LUNA, the Future Lunar Exploration Habitat (FLEXHab) is also currently under construction.
