Samsung appears to be planning to stop supporting its app DeH for Windows after a software update is released OneUI 7.
Android Authority recently noted updates to the Samsung DeX page on its UK website stating that the DeX feature for Windows will be discontinued starting with OneUI 7, which will be available in 2025. “DeX for PC on Windows operating system will no longer be supported by One UI 7. We recommend that customers connect their mobile phone and PC using the Link to Windows feature,” Samsung said on its website.
The DeX feature for Windows allowed smartphone users to connect their devices to a PC and transform the Windows environment into a Samsung DeX interface. The name itself was short for “Desktop eXperience”.
While Phone Link doesn’t have exactly the same functionality as DeX for Windows, it can serve as a suitable replacement in terms of being able to project your smartphone’s interface onto your computer screen and launch apps remotely. Phone Link can also be used wirelessly and works on Android phones from a variety of brands outside the Samsung ecosystem.
The ongoing collaboration between Samsung and Microsoft has given birth to Phone Link for smartphones and many other devices from the brand. It is unknown whether the demise of DeX for Windows may lead to a review of Phone Link features. However, a recent leak on Samsung’s Spanish website has revealed major visual and functional updates to Samsung One UI 7, including several AI updates.
Android Central noted that Samsung’s decision to ditch DeX for Windows could likely be due to the low number of users. Samsung DeX will still be available; However, its compatibility will be more focused on TVs, monitors and other devices with a large screen, the publication adds.
