When the Android OS messaging app was updated in early 2022, iMessage reactions were added. Now Apple has credited Google for adding it to its software.

Google rolled out the reactions before the “Get the Message” campaign in August. This Wednesday (28) was observed by David Imel that the iOS 16 new features page quotes the change in the competitor.

“Android SMS Tapbacks: React to SMS messages with a Tapback and an emoji with the corresponding reaction will appear on the recipients’ Android devices,” says Apple’s website. The text was added with the release of Apple’s new operating system.

Even though the company made the announcement as something from iOS 16, the functionality is long before launch. This feature came in the iOS 15 era, but it’s not available for all Android SMS apps, just Google’s default client.

Android messaging apps are now transforming iMessage reactions, known as Tapbacks, that iPhone users send. One possible explanation for Apple’s share of this feature is that it is confusing users of both operating systems with another similar feature that allows Tapbacks in message groups.
