Typical of owning a new iPhone: Live Photos activation and mute switch issue

We describe two of the main issues that arise when an iPhone is released.

There is a clear and definite indication that someone is using an iPhone while receiving their messages via chat. No, there is no prompt text detailing your iPhone model or anything like that. We’re talking about Live Photos, and it’s pretty fun if you think about it.

A user has been known to use a brand new iPhone when they receive a message with a photo, and it’s actually a Live Photo rather than a static image. random this makes no sense.

Apple’s Live Photos, GIFs

Live Photos

But let’s start with the basics. Let’s lay the foundation. What is Live Photo? This is a type of GIF that allows iPhone and iPad users to send and receive footage that filmed 1.5 seconds before and 1.5 seconds after the camera click.

This is an especially useful feature if you’re showing something that interests you and want to add some perspective to it, or even make selfies a little more fun.

Live Photos are enabled by default in both the Camera app and the Messages app, so it’s very common to see a new iPhone user send a Live Photo instead of a photo. In fact, it’s happened to almost every iPhone and iPad model I’ve purchased.

So if you suddenly see a Live Photo that doesn’t make much sense… immediately ask if the other person has bought an iPhone (or iPad). And the funniest part is that they usually don’t realize it, and what’s more, they don’t really know how to disable them.

Side button to mute the sound

Another of the “issues” when buying a new iPhone or iPad is sound. Sometimes newer Apple users report that their iPhone has sound issues on their device due to notifications or calls not playing sound.

It has a very simple explanation, it usually happens because side button accidentally pressed – a kind of switch – a button used to mute the device. This is a very common situation especially when using an iPhone for the first time. So be very careful with this!

Have any of these “issues” happened to you? What other signs have you seen about a brand new iPhone?
