The family also states that there are “lots of books and school papers” in the area where the cell phone would normally be located, but that it would have been cleared the night before the incident.
What caused the iPhone to catch fire?
iPhone 4 uses a lithium-ion battery just like any other electronic device. Although the family reports that they do not know the cause of the incident, in their reports they state that they use an Apple charger, there are also reasons that may cause a malfunction, such as damage to the hardware.
These include the age of the device and the deterioration of the component. In the past, Apple has already admitted and sued that it degrades the performance of some iPhone models to prevent the battery from overheating and thus damaging the hardware of the smartphones.
The case, known as “BatteryGate”, has been affecting iPhone models since at least 2016. On the iPhone 4 in question, the reasons for the burning still remain unclear.
