A HonourHuawei’s smartphone company announced at MWC 2023 world’s first silicon-carbon battery. The innovation promises a 12.8% increase in energy intensity, which means that mobile phones equipped with this technology will have more autonomy.

CEO George Zhao explains that when the voltage drops to 3.5 volts, the standard lithium battery does not have much charge left, while the silicon-carbon battery has 240% more capacity when it reaches this point, giving an overall gain of 12.8%.

Interestingly, it seems that the Magic5 Pro from China is already listed with 5,450 mAh, but the fact that the international model comes with 5,100 mAh raises doubts whether Honor is actually using the new technology in Chinese devices.

This new technology could be a huge advance for smartphones and other electronics as it will allow for greater autonomy without sacrificing too much on the size of the devices.
