Series Samsung Galaxy A has long been a great choice for people who want the style of a Galaxy S series at the price of an S series. The Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34 are the latest and Samsung is not shy about giving these phones the latest flagship skin. .

The even better news is that the A54 still offers a great screen, long battery life, a decent camera, and solid everyday features you’ll love, all at an affordable price. Could the new Galaxy A54 be the smartest smartphone of 2023? I tried it for a short time to find out.

Properly Getting Amazing Flowers

The Galaxy A54 is very similar to the Galaxy S23, with three cameras on the back, each of which sits on a Gorilla Glass 5 back and is surrounded by a decorative metal ring. The body is made of metal and plastic, which means Samsung can ditch the antenna bands for a cleaner look, and the screen is covered in Gorilla Glass 5.

It’s thin and compact, at 8.2mm thin despite the large 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen, and feels solid and expensive in the hand. The Galaxy A54 pulls off this nice trick by feeling a lot more expensive than it really is. At 202 grams, it feels big, but it doesn’t feel heavy or bulky, so don’t let that put you off.

There are four color options and they are all amazing. Not my word, but the word of the Samsung marketing department. So, on an impressive scale, how amazing are they? Well, the basic whites and hot blacks aren’t impressive at all, but the very cool Awesome Violet and the bright and highly coveted Awesome Lime Green score 10 out of 10.

The display has a 120Hz refresh rate and a small round notch for the 32MP selfie camera in the top center, while the maximum brightness has been bumped up to 1000nits. This is great news, as the Galaxy A53’s screen may have problems in bright sunlight. Everything went smoothly in my short time with the phone, and as with many Samsung screens, colors and contrast levels are spot on.

Quality materials, a high refresh rate screen that’s brighter than before, durability, and some great colors to choose from – I really like how the Galaxy A54 gets a lot of the basics right without resorting to gimmicks or features that don’t make sense to draw people in.

New Exynos chip for power and efficiency

The camera setup has been upgraded from that used in the Galaxy A53, with a new 50MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP wide-angle camera, and a 5MP macro camera. Increasing the pixel size means photos should be brighter, and the A54 should also perform better in low light.

You might think it goes without saying, but the Galaxy A54 has Samsung’s latest Exynos 1380 processor inside, and this is my first time using the device with it. Exynos hasn’t always been the best performer, and while a few photos and a swipe of the operating system don’t really test the phone, it was enough to clear up any initial misgivings.

The Galaxy A54 has a 5000 mAh battery inside, and Samsung promises two days of life from it. It doesn’t seem like a big requirement given that the same capacity batteries provide this in other phones, so it’s reasonable to think it will work. You can choose between 128 GB or 256 GB of memory, as well as space for a microSD card with a maximum capacity of 1 TB.

It’s a 5G phone with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, along with Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and the ability to use an eSIM instead of a standard SIM. There’s an in-display fingerprint sensor that has decent speed, an IP67 waterproof rating, and a 25-watt fast battery charging system.

But what about Galaxy A34?

Visually, there isn’t much difference between the Galaxy A54 and Galaxy A34, and the easiest way to tell them apart is to look at the selfie camera notch on the screen. It’s a simple dot on the Galaxy A54 and a waterdrop notch on the Galaxy A34.

At 8.2mm thick and weighing 199 grams, the phone’s screen is covered in Gorilla Glass 5, while the back is made from a plastic that Samsung calls “Glasstic” because its texture is similar to glass. The screen has the same resolution and 120Hz refresh rate as the A54 but is slightly larger at 6.6 inches.

The Exynos 54 in the Galaxy A1380 has been replaced by the MediaTek Dimensity 1080. While there are still three cameras on the back, the array includes a 48MP main camera with OIS, an 8MP wide-angle camera, and a 5MP macro camera. Like the Galaxy A54, it features a 5,000mAh battery, 25W charging, IP67 rating, microSD card slot for expansion up to 128GB or 256GB internal storage, 6GB or 8GB RAM, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Other features include a 13MP selfie camera, stereo speakers, the ability to make mobile payments with NFC, and 5G connectivity.
