Activists, including former employees of the company, rejected a speech by AWS vice president of artificial intelligence products Matt Wood, despite registering online.

The event was attended by security guards from private firms, the New York Police Department, and the New York State Police, who confiscated activists’ posters and leaflets during bag checks. Amazon’s strict security protocols were intended to “prevent unrest similar to that which occurred at the AWS summit in Washington two weeks ago.”

The protests were organised by No Tech for Apartheid (NOTA), a group of tech workers and activists critical of tech companies’ collaboration with the Israeli government. The group, which includes former Google and Amazon employees, sought to highlight the ethical implications of Project Nimbus by claiming it is linked to military operations in Gaza.
