Apple plans to switch to a USB-C port on the iPhone 15. At least that’s what the latest rumors say, as well as journalist Mark Gurman (bloomberg), who reported a few days ago that the Cupertino-based firm is already working on an iPhone design with this connector. So 2023 will be the year the company says goodbye to its iconic Lightning connector in order to move to a more versatile and standardized one. Smartphones, however, won’t be the only devices to make this transition. Like the whole ecosystem of accessoriesincluding AirPods, said analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo emphasizes that Apple’s goal is to update all those products that currently have a Lightning port to include a USB-C connector. Thus, it is expected that AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Maxhave been produced with this technology since September 2023. Also a MagSafe battery with a Lightning connector as well as Mac peripheralsincluding Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and Magic Keyboard.

“Other products with a Lightning port (e.g. AirPods, Magic Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse, MagSafe battery) will also migrate to USB-C in the foreseeable future.”

Assures Ming-Chi Kuo of a new report shared by 9to5Mac.

It is unknown, yes, whether these accessories will include new features or simply be relaunched with this connector. Including only a USB-C port without adding new features or without a complete upgrade of the product for a new generation This may seem like a strange strategy, it’s something that Apple has done before. For example, AirPods Pro have recently been updated with MagSafe technology, but retain the rest of the features released in the 2019 model.

An iPhone without a port Apple is working on will have to wait

In addition, Kuo guaranteed that Apple intended to announce its first iPhone without a port in 2021. However, the company failed to achieve this goal. The analyst emphasizes, yes, they continue to work on this.

Remember that an iPhone without ports will allow charge only wirelessly, through the Qi standard. Also connect accessories such as headphones via Bluetooth. Apple, on the other hand, plans to ditch the SIM tray, taking advantage of the increasingly popular e-SIM, which only requires setting up a QR code in the terminal.

The company can also bet on wireless communication module on an iPhone. This will allow you to connect the device to the Mac, for example to reboot the device. This module connects with a magnetic system and also allows you to transfer files from Mac to iPhone or vice versa.
