How many years do users replace their iPhone?
This study details how often users change their iPhone, and the results will surprise you.
This iPhones are very durable devices Thanks to its excellent technical features and more than 5 years of guaranteed iOS updates. And yet, Apple users tend to be seen as fanatics who update their iPhones every year.however, as this study reveals, this is a very unusual practice.
CIRP, Consumer Intelligence Research Partnerslaunched A new study estimates how often iPhone users update their iPhone. They have also published other very interesting research before, such as comparisons of what iPhone and Android users are doing with their old devices, the most popular iPhone colors, or how old iPhone, iPad and Mac users are.
This study reveals that the vast majority of iPhone users do not change models every year.
How often do you change iPhone?
The study is divided into age groups, but the results are fairly similar, except for the most advanced age ranges. It seems that a small percentage of users update their iPhones when they are 1 year old and that the vast majority wait 2 to 3 years or even more to do so.
Although divided by age, it can be seen that Users aged 18 to 54 change their iPhone in almost the same way. However, as they get older, it’s more normal for them to take longer to update their iPhone. This table shows the results of the study:

As you can appreciate, majority of users change their iPhone when they are over 2 years old. Also, the younger you are, the sooner you’ll swap your iPhone for a new model. The group of people over 65 is truly amazing, 65% of them keep their iPhone for 3 years or more.
