Samsung plans to re-adopt proprietary Exynos chipsets in next-gen premium Galaxy S phones. After several rumors, the information was confirmed by the brand at the conference with investors about the results of the 1st quarter of 2023.
Kyeokman Kwon, vice president of the device solutions division of the South Korean company, said there: Internal pressure for Exynos to return to flagship phones. However, the executive did not specifically reveal whether this will happen in the Galaxy S24 series.
Historically, Samsung has been introducing new premium chipsets starting with the Galaxy S series. The company plans to launch Galaxy S24 series with Exynos 2400 processor.
The successor to the Exynos 2200 from 2022, this is the ultimate single chip under development by the company. Rumor has it that the model will be produced with a 4-nanometer process, will have 4 times more computing units and will have low energy consumption.
Seems like, Samsung should continue its strategy of launching devices with different chip versions in each market.. For example, phones in Asia and Europe were powered by Exynos chipsets, and phones in certain regions used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip.
However, the Galaxy S23 series debuted in all markets with a special variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. In this case, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy brought more power than the “standard” version and the GPU with ray tracing.
Galaxy S24 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
The return of Exynos chips to Galaxy S series devices does not seem to please users, especially in Europe and Asia. In previous years, devices with this processor were underperforming Snapdragon variants.
On the other hand, Recent leaks suggest that Samsung should equip only the base version of the Galaxy S24 with the Exynos 2400.. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra will use the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
In any case, the Galaxy S24 series should be announced in the first quarter of 2024. Until then, Samsung will be able to make more strategy changes with high-end phones.
