One of the applications that people most often use on their mobile phones to avoid “annoying” calls is true callerwhich helps to detect spam and especially calls from commercial houses or banks.

And now the app is partnering with whatsapp so spam filters also reach messages and internet call networks.

According to Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedy, the feature, which is currently in beta testing, will go live worldwide at the end of May.

In February, India’s telecommunications regulator ordered carriers including Jio and Airtel to start blocking telemarketing calls on their networks with artificial intelligence filters. Truecaller said it is in talks with telecom operators to implement such a solution.

“Over the past two weeks, we have seen an increase in reports from users in India about spam calls via WhatsApp,” Mamedi said, noting that telemarketing operators switching to internet calls were fairly new to the market.

WhatsApp is the most popular messaging platform in India. The company says it uses spam detection technology to detect and take action against accounts with abnormal behavior and also allows users to block and report problematic accounts.
