Mediatek has introduced a dual Wi-Fi 7 chip solution, reportedly manufactured using TSMC’s 6nm process technology. These Figic 880 and Figic 380 are designed for high-bandwidth applications in the carrier, retail, business and consumer electronics markets and should be among the first WiFi 7 solutions on the market, according to the chipmaker.

The Figic 880 combines a 6nm Wi-Fi 7 access point solution with a powerful host processor that includes a quad-core Arm Cortex-A73 application processor and an advanced network processing unit (NPU).

Figic 380 is a standalone, single-chip 6nm WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 combo solution designed for smartphones, TVs, laptops, set-top boxes, OTT streaming devices and various other consumer electronics devices powered by Mediatek SoCs.

Mediatek also plans to expand its 5G modem offering with automotive modems. The company expects to offer this 5G modem between 2022 and the second half of 2023, with the first customers predominantly in the Asia-Pacific region.
