Last Wednesday (30) night, Second ‘Super Moon’ of the year visible from all over the world. From 18:20 it was possible to see this phenomenon in various parts of Brazil, such as the cities of Porto Alegre, Curitiba and Goiânia, and Fortaleza, where the sky is clear during the night.

As usual, satellite and astronomy enthusiasts prepared to record this event and of course shared the footage on social networks. Check out photos of the blue supermoon from around the world:

This phenomenon occurs when the Moon is at its closest orbital point to Earth, the so-called perigee. As a result, the planet appears much larger (about 10%) and brighter than normal when viewed with the naked eye. Because it is the second full moon of August, this event is called the “Super Blue Moon”.

Despite its name, it is notable: the color of the satellite does not change. But in the past, two more bluish supermoons had already appeared in 1883 and 1951.

On both occasions, the moon’s blue color was caused by other events in nature: the eruption of the Krakatoa volcano in Indonesia and the forest fires in Canada, respectively. In both cases, the smoke in the atmosphere gave the impression that the satellite had turned even bluer.
