Mercedes-Benz is at the forefront of electrification of heavy transport. The spearhead of the German brand is calledto eActros LongHaul: an electric truck with a range of 500Km on one charge. The vehicle will debut on the road in 2024.

The challenge of electrification of mobility also extends to the heavy vehicle sector, which unlike private cars has several additional unknowns. For example, because it will be necessary to equip highways and ring roads around the world with new charging points specially designed for the new generation of trucks.

The eActros LongHaul is designed to support high performance charging technology. The first prototype weighs 40 tons and will hit the road for the first time at the end of 2022.

Mercedes is working on three new vehicles: eActros 300 and eActros 400, for the transport of goods, and therefore also the eEconic, an electric commercial vehicle for waste collection. The latter is sold to European municipal authorities.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks works together with Siemens Smart Infrastructure, ENGIE, EVBox Group and the Volvo Group. The alliance provides for the establishment of a joint venture with the aim of developing a new charging infrastructure network for electric trucks widespread throughout Europe.
