Sheryl Sandberg has resigned from the role of COO of Meta. It had joined the realm of facebook 14 years ago, and was considered the right-hand man of Mark Zuckerberg. For 14 years, Sandberg was the most powerful woman in the company. Unsurprisingly, Zuckerberg himself accepted the news of his resignation by speaking of the “end of an era.”

Sandberg was instrumental in transforming Facebook into a global empire that can reach billions of people with its products and services. Will continue to occupy the role of COO from Meta until this fall. It will use the last few months to make the transition as smooth as possible. In addition, Sheryl Sandberg will continue to serve on Meta’s board of directors after her resignation.

Zuckerberg explained that Sheryl Sandberg has always had an atypical role within Facebook, with skills well beyond the normal limits of a COO. Whoever replaces her, namely the current head of growth Javier Olivan, will fulfill the role of COO in a more traditional way. According to The Verge, Sandberg’s departure strengthens Mark Zuckeberg within Meta. Today, the founder no longer has to share power with virtually every other executive.
