According to several anonymous sources, Samsung vice president Lee Jae-yong reportedly came to the Netherlands this month to invest heavily in Dutch tech companies. Rumor has it the CEO is coming to the Netherlands because the company is dealing with Extreme Ultraviolet chip machines from ASML. There is even talk of a possible takeover of semiconductor giant NXP Semiconductors from Eindhoven.
Of course, Samsung has yet to make an official statement about Lee’s journey. The CEO, on the other hand, requested a temporary suspension of legal proceedings in order to be able to travel to the Netherlands last month. At the same time, Samsung announced that it will invest $355 billion in next-generation chip technology. This is an investment that spans a period of five years. Although the largest part is invested in South Korean companies, there are rumors that some of them will also come to the Netherlands.
This is not the first time NXP Semiconductors has been mentioned as a potential future subsidiary of Samsung. With a market cap approaching $50 billion, this will take a significant share of Samsung’s promised investment pool, so the rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. On the other hand, the company is looking for ways to better arm itself against TSMC’s significant presence in the global market.
In any case, Lee Jae-yong would visit the picturesque North Brabant cities of Veldhoven and Eindhoven on behalf of Samsung to invest billions in Dutch technology.
