During the 40th Leitz Photographica Auction in Wetzlar, Germany, a camera sold for 14.4 million euros (including auction costs). The aircraft in question is a Leica 0 series with production number 105. Between 1923 and 1924, Ernst Leitz produced about 23 of this model.

It belonged to inventor Oskar Barnack, who in 1913 prototyped what would later become the first commercially successful 35mm camera. With this Leica-0 no.105, Barnack photographed until 1930 and gained experience in further development of the aforementioned model. The camera was originally owned by his son Conrad Barnack until 1960 and eventually made its way into a collector’s collection from the United States. The estimated selling price was between two and three million euros, but the hammer eventually fell to 14.4 million euros.

It is a small and inconspicuous tool equipped with the necessary copper rust from decades of use. The name “Oscar Barnack” is engraved on the visor. In addition, the new owner will receive the lens cap (with the initials “OB”).
