The fight against plastic continues, one of the greatest scourges of the twenty-first century that must somehow be stopped, and now Apple opts for a greener and more sustainable idea. In a note obtained by MacRumorsApple said it is testing new, durable packaging for repaired iPhones as part of the company’s commitment to eliminate plastic in all packaging by 2025. In April, Apple announced that it had reduced the plastic in its packaging. 75% since 2015, and said plastics will account for just 4% of the company’s packaging by 2021.

We also report that as of this week, Apple will release repaired iPhone 12 models over a new brown box that is 100% plastic free and made with bleach-free paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, all according to the aforementioned company note, obtained by MacRumors. Until now, all repaired iPhones shipped by Apple were packaged in a white box with plastic.

Environmentally friendly and sustainable packaging will be used for repaired iPhone 12 models shipped from warehouses in theApple repair center ai Apple Store, to Apple Authorized Service Providers and/or directly to customers in the United States and other countries. Apple has not indicated whether it will extend greener packaging to all repaired iPhones if the process is fruitful and productive.

Apple previously announced that its global operations will be decarbonised as of 2020, and the company said it has been using 100% renewable energy to power its offices, retail stores and data centers since 2018. In March 2022, Apple said 213 of its manufacturing partners also committed to producing 100% renewable electricity for business-related production.
