Porsche just added two real beasts to its catalog of electric vehicles: Taycan Turbo GT And Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package. Two models that, as their names suggest, are performance-oriented and are capable of producing around 1,100 horsepower at maximum power. The second variant, developed specifically for track use, showed all its power, breaking records both at Laguna Seca and at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife.

According to Porsche, the new Taycan Turbo GT achieves impressive performance thanks to technological and aerodynamic improvements, as well as the use of lighter materials in its production.

In the case of the regular Taycan Turbo GT, Porsche used carbon fiber on the B-pillar moldings, on the sills and on the rear-view mirror housings. This includes, among other modifications, lighter carbon fiber-reinforced polymer seats, a redesign of the brake disc chamber and brake caliper body itself, and the elimination of the electric trunk lock. Thus, the manufacturer managed to make this car several 75 kg lighter than the Taycan Turbo S..

According to Porsche, the weight savings in the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package are even more significant. Since this option was developed for use on the race track, it does not include two rear seats. It also doesn’t have speakers in the rear, and instrumentation, insulation material and even the carpets in the cabin and trunk have been removed to make it lighter. Carbon fiber trim is used to cover the rear part of the cabin, in the absence of seats.

Thanks to these changes, Porsche managed to lose another 70 kilograms weight of the model with the Weissach package compared to the regular Taycan Turbo GT. Crazy, no doubt.

Taycan Turbo GT, Porsche’s new electric beasts

But Porsche achieved the same brutal performance of the new Taycan Turbo GT not only by making it lighter. Both models come with new more powerful and efficient inverter900 amps, which was developed using silicon carbide as a semiconductor.

The new Taycan Turbo GT has the power 580 kW, which corresponds to approximately 778 hp. Although it reaches 760 kW (1019 hp) if Launch Control is used, with the ability to achieve peak power. 815 kW (1093 hp). Although the last one is only for two seconds.

To this it should be added that the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package has a further 120 kW with attack mode. The latter was developed based on the system “click and go” already available in other Taycans and delivers the aforementioned power for 10 seconds at the touch of a button.

In terms of performance, both cars deliver sensational performance. According to Porsche measurements, the Taycan Turbo GT accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.3 secondsand from 0 to 200 km/in 6.6 seconds. The variant with the Weissach package achieves this in 2.2 and 6.4 secondsrespectively.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT accelerates to 290 kilometers per hour, and with the Weissach package reaches 305 km/h. At the same time, his autonomy up to 555 kilometersaccording to the WLTP cycle.

Break records

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT comes standard with Active Ride suspension optimized for sporty handling, as well as special tires on 21-inch wheels and ceramic brakes. In addition, the aerodynamic package includes an active spoiler.

The model with the Weissach package has different aerodynamic parameters. The manufacturer has provided a fixed rear spoiler, a new front diffuser and air deflectors at the bottom of the car. And to test its impressive performance, Porsche decided to demonstrate this car on two of the world’s most challenging tracks.

The first big test was carried out at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a pre-production Porsche Taycan Turbo GT model with the Weissach package. Under the command of driver Lars Kern, the car set a record 7 minutes, 7 seconds and 55 hundredths. This made it not only the fastest production electric car on the track, but also the fastest 4-door car to cover the nearly 21-kilometer route, regardless of its powertrain. In addition, Kern lowered his previous record in the Taycan Turbo S Sport by 26 seconds.

Meanwhile, in Laguna Seca, Kern completed the route in 1 minute 27 seconds 87 hundredths. This makes the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package the fastest production electric car ever driven on the California track.

Price and availability

If you want to get your hands on the new Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with or without the Weissach package, get ready to open your wallet. Cars can now be reserved on the car company’s website using starting price 248,685 euros for both models.
