Polestar unveiled its new electric vehicle prototype and, together with Israeli startup StoreDot, announced a new charging system called XFC (Extreme Fast Charging), capable of Charge your EV battery from 10 to 80% in just 10 minutes.
The company demonstrated this charging system on a Polestar 5 with 77 kWh batteries incorporating XFC technology developed by StoreDot, which the company says is a battery Charged without overheating.
The Israeli company previously presented this charging technology and assured that it can withstand more than 2000 charging cycleswhich will give a useful life of 650,000 km for a car with a mileage of 325 km.
For now, yes, this is just a test since the company has not yet launched the Polestar 5. In any case, the inclusion of a fast charging system in electric cars is very good news. Mainly because it solves one of the biggest drawbacks of this type of vehicle: the waiting time for the battery to charge.
New Polestar fast charging is great news for the electrical market
Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, actually hopes that this technology accelerate “mass adoption of electric vehicles”.
By eliminating charging times, which had previously been a barrier, StoreDot’s XFC battery cells, combined with Polestar’s advanced battery engineering and development, have opened up new horizons for electric mobility. “This technology will change consumer expectations and accelerate mass adoption of electric vehicles, making electric vehicle ownership a seamless experience for the mass market.”
Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar.
In any case, today there are electric models from other brands that can charge the battery relatively quickly. An example is some Hyundai and Kia models that have a system that can Provide 80% charge to an 800V battery in just 18 minutes.
Tesla, for its part, has the aforementioned superchargers, which have a power of 250kW and can charge 50% of the battery in about 15 minutes, from 20 to 80% of the battery in 20 minutes.
