As of today, July 1, the rules of the roam like homethe regulation ofEU which allows you to call, text and surf in the countries of the European Union under the same conditions as the user’s national tariff. Thanks to the new rules, the user has a number greater than GB to surf abroad.

But no illusions: the user will still not have the same amount of GB available as included in his plan for browsing at home. The GBs for surfing abroad will be much less. So if you have 30 GB in your plan, don’t expect to be able to use another 30 GB abroad. There will probably be much less.

The new regulation extends the roam like at home program for another ten years, i.e. until 2027. There are some new features.

There is a formula to find out how many GB you have available abroad. It’s a bit complicated, but it’s important to avoid unpleasant surprises. Indeed, the number of WBCs that will be available in other Member States depends on a number of factors.

The foreign data threshold is equal to double the costs the user pays for the telephone subscription (excluding VAT), divided by the costs per GB wholesale. So: 2 x (subscription costs excl. VAT / wholesale GB costs).

An important fact is derived from this: it is not important how many GBs are in your subscription, but only how much you pay monthly.

Don’t worry if math has never been your forte. The mobile operator will tell you how many GB you are entitled to abroad. In addition, the formula only indicates the legal minimum amount of GB that you are entitled to, but the operator is free to include even more data.
