New advances and developments in technology are meant to offer new alternatives and suggest changes to what is wrong. And precisely in that, it is demonstrated that although artificial intelligence is not yet superior to humans, it will be a matter of time.

One important step was a project recently published in the journal Nature by Google’s DeepMind researchers, in which they started playing around with the question: Is machine learning better than humans at creating a society where resources are more equitably distributed?

The results appear to be in the affirmative. Before diving into this study fully, it should be noted that the researchers claim that the AI system it does not necessarily mean that it will fairly meet people’s needs on a larger scale.

“Experiments are not a radical proposal for AI-based control, but rather a basis for future research on how AI can interfere with public policy“, they add.

In addition to this, a series of experiments were conducted in which they trained a deep neural network to distribute wealth. They started with an online game that included several people. In each round, they were asked to decide whether to keep part of the money for themselves or, conversely, invest it in a common fund.

These funds will be returned to players through three different redistribution schemes. based on two human economic systems and an additional one created by AI called the Human Centered Redistribution Engine (HRCH). People will vote to decide which system they prefer.

Well it turns out the latter was chosen by the majority. And it is that while human systems distributed benefits based on aspects such as the amount each player contributed, the system The AI redistributed wealth in such a way as to take into account the advantages and disadvantages that the players had at the beginning of the game.

“Rather than simply maximizing efficiency, the mechanism was progressive: it freed those who started the game with a lack of wealth at the expense of those with higher starting capital.”explain.

The purpose of this type of project, as they themselves explain, is to demonstrate its effectiveness, and for us to be the ones who vote to decide that the options developed by AI are basically better.
