The Moves III plan will be extended until June 30, 2025.. Thus, the Spanish government has determined a 6-month extension of the assistance program for the purchase of electric vehicles and the installation of charging stations, which was supposed to end on December 31.

Likewise, Pedro Sánchez confirmed that the possibility of deducting part of the purchase price of an electric vehicle on a tax return will remain until December 31, 2025. In this sense, the possibility of deducting 15% of the cost of the car remains up to a maximum amount of 20,000 euros, which makes it possible to obtain a tax benefit of up to 3,000 euros.

As for the Moves III plan, the decision to keep it through the first half of 2025 (at least) will be a major incentive for those thinking about switching to electric vehicles. Let’s keep in mind that the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) has withdrawn support for the purchase of electric vehicles for next year, which has drawn strong criticism due to its potential negative impact on the electrification of the Spanish vehicle fleet.

It is worth saying that this is not the first time that the Spanish government has extended the Moves III Plan. The aid was due to end at the end of 2023, but it was decided to extend it until mid-2024 and then until December 31 this year. But now it has been decided that they will be preserved. until June 30, 2025and it appears the door is open to extending it before the deadline.

What will the Moves III plan look like in 2025?

Reportedly Spanishthe extension of the Moves III plan will be accompanied by an estimated investment of 250 million euros. Of this amount, 50 million remained from the amount allocated for relief this year, and the remaining 200 million corresponded to new items.

The figures that will be provided as assistance for the purchase of electric or hybrid cars will not change compared to previous years. As a reminder, vehicles must be worth up to 45,000 euros excluding VAT, and the Moves III plan provides benefits of up to 2,500 euros (without scrappage) or 5,000 euros (with scrappage) in the case of plug-in hybrids, and for cars 100% electric assistance – up to 4500 euros (without scrap) or 7000 euros. (with recycling).

Although the Moves III plan is a very positive tool to promote the adoption of electric mobility in Spain, it is not without controversy. The main criticism of its implementation came from delays in application of assistanceWell, depending on the autonomous community, they may be more than a year after purchasing a new car.
