Currently, theA15 Bionic Apple is considered the fastest mobile SoC, with the iPhone 13 Pro Max being the top-tier flagship, but this combination has been beaten by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chipset paired with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra. The A15 Bionic running in the iPhone 13 Pro Max still guarantees better power efficiency than the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.
By running Genshin Impact on both phones, Gold reviewer found that the Xiaomi 12S Ultra achieves 57.7 FPS with significantly improved efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 running in the Galaxy S22 Ultra, a flagship that achieved “mean” 42.1 FPS and also suffered from overheating. Note that the Genshin Impact gaming test was run on the highest visual settings, with an ambient temperature of 25 degrees.
Except theiPad mini 6see Xiaomi 12S Ultra beats the iPhone 13 Pro Max and theiPhone SE 2022 achieving a higher average frame rate than both phones, and with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 at lower temperatures than the A15 Bionic in both smartphones. The only advantage of the A15 Bionic is that it offers better power efficiency than the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, meaning the iPhone 13 Pro Max has better battery life when using Genshin Impact.
However, for some reason, the iPad mini 6 with the same SoC consumes more power but at the same time outperforms the Xiaomi 12S Ultra with an average frame rate of 59.3. Given these improvements, we can’t wait to see what the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 brings to the table, which like the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to be mass-produced on TSMC’s 4nm architecture, but one whistleblower says the next SoC will show better energy efficiency.
