The last one took place in the 80s census from bumblebees of the California. There was no slaughter of insects then or the risks to the ecosystem of the extinction of these pollinators.
Now, four decades later, a team from the University of California Riverside wants to de
California pollinator census. Well, unfortunately alarming numbers have come out for the
bumblebees. The once dominant species in America are now gone.
In the world there are more than 260 species of bumblebees, of which about 30 live in California. Such insects are the
pollinators main existing. They ensure the pollination of cranberries, tomatoes and peppers.
They are more active than bees because they can withstand lower temperatures and have the ability to fly with little
light. If you look at the statistics, bumblebees pollinate crops worth a staggering 3 billion a year
dollars.
The current census has produced terrible results. The team examined 17 different species
bumblebees, of which 64% of the total are in California. Scholars have been unable to find any
species they expected to harvest. A surprise, for example, was that of Bombus
occidentalis, which was the dominant species at the last census. Today there isn’t even one anymore.
An endless extinction apparently that can be legally slowed down. However, the bumblebees
Strictly legal grounds can be considered fish and thus protected by California
Endangered Species Act The latter protects birds, amphibians, reptiles, plants and mammals
fish. Well, if the bumblebees fall under the fish classification, then they are protected. After all, they can
consider as various invertebrates, crustaceans and mollusks.
