A group of archaeologists have discovered prehistoric reindeer bones and mortal remains mammoth in a cave under Pembroke Castle, in Wales. The mansion was the residence of the Pembroke County family. A medieval building of historical interest, then restored in the 20th century. The site of the discovery is Wogan’s cave. Scholars are trying to find evidence of the use of this cave by humans and animals dating back to theice age. Strategically located at the time, the castle became a starting point for Ireland and a passageway for Henry II and King John.
The cave was also easy for boats to enter and became a storage area and shed. Over time, the cave became one in the fortifications of the castle with a gate at the entrance. In addition, other remains of ancient structures could be hidden beneath the castle. Scientists do not rule out objects that are older than the Middle Ages and predate the Romans. Here’s Robert Dinnis of the University of Aberdeen and Jenni French of the University of Liverpool trying to discover parts of the cave that have remained hidden. Well, they remained secret for more than 10 thousand years. Something that could anticipate a future discovery regarding the remains of human populations dating back to paleolithic.
Pembroke Castle has withstood many attacks in Wales on its own for 30 years. The building was built at the time in the land under Norman control. Scholars already knew that the castle was built on a site that had been occupied since Roman times. Remained in ruins until 1880, then it was restored. Everything stood still until 1928 when Sir Ivor Phillips bought the castle and restored the walls, towers and gatehouse. After Philipps’ death, the castle was administered by the Pembroke borough and the late lord’s family.
