Although the use of Android Auto according to our mobile device is very simple and requires almost no installation, the truth is that there are a number of minimum requirements that many people have not taken into account lately because they were very low.

But over the course of this year, Google, without announcing it, raised the minimum requirement to be able to use Android Auto with our Android phone.

Specific, it is now absolutely mandatory to have Android 8.0 or later to enable users to run Android Auto over the wire in their vehicles, where previously only Android 6.0 was required. That being said, hundreds of mobile phones are out of the equation and you can use one of them.

From now on, if you try to run Android Auto on a device with an Android version earlier than 8.0, the app will display the message “This device is not compatible with Android Auto”, automatically closing the application.

However, there is a solution if you have a mobile device with Android version older than 8.0, and that you can downgrade the current version of your Android Auto app to a previous version.

According to the user community, Android Auto 7.4 still works fine with terminals below Android 8.0..

One thing to keep in mind is that the current version of Android Auto is 7.9, and Android Auto 8.0, which arrives in the coming weeks, is expected to feature a much-anticipated UI redesign.
