In a few days, next August 10, Samsung presents its new generation of smartphones with folding screen. It now seems more and more certain that the two devices will be renamed slightly to avoid unpleasant connections to the conflict in . to avoid Ukraine. He started talking about it four months ago.

Until now, Samsung’s two folding lines were always called Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold. But now that’z‘has become a clumsy brand. It is the same symbol painted on the armored vehicles used by Russia during the invasion of Ukraine. That symbol, so recognizable and ubiquitous during the conflict, has since become a flag of the far right who identify with Vladimir Putin’s imperialism.

Obviously, Samsung has absolutely nothing to do with this. But we still live in a time when it’s really quick to pick up a phone and unleash another pointless online controversy. It is therefore not surprising if a listed multinational company decides to take even such a trivial matter very seriously, by playing ahead and nip in the bud any possible accusation of complicity with Russia or insensitivity to the Ukrainian people.

Anyway, it wouldn’t even make much sense for Samsung to use the Z for its branding, as it initially had a precise meaning: it echoed the Galaxy Fold’s design when closed. But now this association no longer even exists.

Moral? The following folders will almost certainly be called plain Samsung Galaxy Fold4 And Samsung Galaxy Flip4.
